Is Bing Keeping It More Real Than Google?

So what’s the deal with real time searches? Well, if you’re a consumer looking for a specific product then this might not pertain to you. Real time searches typically bring to mind current events and news, and that does make up the majority. Essentially real time searches are applicable to anyone who wants to know what’s going on in a particular topic right now. That’s why the news last year of the deal struck between Twitter and both Bing and Google was so big. Obviously Google was going to trample the competition right?

Well, maybe not. Google chose to go the route of integrating their real time results into their regular results, if they’re interesting enough. Bing, on the other hand, made tweets and real time results available on a separate page. It may seem like a pain having to go to a different page just to get those, but it’s looking as though Bing has stumbled on the ultimate targeting strategy.

According to OneUpWeb, a large portion of Google users don’t even know how to find the real time results, much less express an interest in them. That’s because the majority of searchers aren’t looking for real time topics. Those who are can’t be bothered to go sifting through below the fold listing to find what they want and prefer going to a page that’s designed specifically for them. Don’t count Google out yet though. They’re known for having a few tricks up their sleeve so they may yet surprise us.

    I give it a try and it’s nice that I can get the image i needed easily than in google.

    but i turn back to google again and again. My toolbar, which has a gmail notifier so important to me, is set with google. The current features of bing is just not revolutionary to make us move.

    it’s nice to see there’s a great alternative to google, but it’s an alternative.

    Is it bad not to like bing.. just not to like it? There is something about the spartan design of google that I just can’t not like :)

    That’s basically one of the disappointments about google search. A lot of people don’t know or don’t have the time to click the Show options just above the search results generated by Google. Only from there can they choose if the results they want is the latest, from last week, last month or from a specific date range.

    If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. If you really need that kind of privacy, the reality is that search engines — including Google — do retain this information for some time and it’s important, for example, that we are all subject in the United States to the Patriot Act and it is possible that all that information could be made available to the authorities.

    I switch back and forth, I also use Mylook and just whatever I feel like that day. The funny thing is, my homepage is Google and I’ll type Bing in google then go to Bing and conduct my search…
