The release of the iPad has hit the Kindle hard. This is because most people agree that the iPad offers a far superior reading experience than what is available on the Kindle; some claim it really is just better in many ways. When something like this happens it can mean the end for a company but Kindle are not taking the whole thing lying down –no way. With so much at stake the makers of the reader have decided to up their game; they are going to change the functionality of the Kindle so as to make it more competitive against the iPad.
So How Can the Kindle compete with the iPad?
A lot of people have already written off the Kindle as something that just can’t compete with the iPad. This might be a bit presumptuous though as there are still areas where this eBook reader can have an edge. With this in mind the makers of Kindle intend to work at those areas where they have an advantage and try and improve in those areas where they are falling behind. To meet these objectives the next generation of Kindles will be even thinner, faster at turning pages, and have better screen contrast. There may also be plans in the future to introduce colour.
Who will win between the iPad and Kindle?
Personally my money is on the iPad but I still think that there is room on the market of the Kindle. One of the disadvantages of the iPad is its size and it also must be admitted that presently the Kindle is probably easier on the eye for those who like to spend a lot of hours reading. The one definite thing is that this competition is great for all of us as it will mean the creation of better and better eBook readers.
